It's Offical Again!

We took James and Michael out of school last Friday. So school starts tomorrow!
I'm in the middle of trying to figure out what books to get. It's a little discouraging because of
the lack of funds to get the books I'd like. I'm pretty sure we're going to do A Beka Math, I'm even tempted to get John an a Beka Math book, just so everyone is working on the same curriculum. The most frustrating thing is that I can get some of these books cheaper on amazon however the shipping brings it almost back to the new price. :/ Dumb!
So now I'm sitting here depressed...
I just keep praying the Lord provides a job for Deryk.

Sick...yuck!

Well we're off to a horrible start! We're all sick! John was up coughing all night and my head is just swimming :/ Well I guess we'll still go to to the library and get books and a maybe a few dvds, then we'll just snuggle up and keep eachother warm.

I'm also going to look for a walking gps today...we need one for all our gro caching excursions!!! :D

-Found a garmin walking gps for $125 today through Amazon, that was good.
-Officially took John out of school, that was good.
-Went to the library and checked out some educational books for John and 1 chapter book, also a few books on "tape" actually it was cd :), a documentary on Komodo Dragons, and some fun dvds, that was good.
- Watched the dragon video, that was good.
-Listened to a Jack and Annie book, that was good.
-Worked on multiplication facts, that was good.
-Suffered from a cold and major bladder infection, that was BAD!

Deryk will be working with John on his work bench later this evening and then we'll all watch Lady Hawk! Those will also be good ;)

All in all....Good Day...

Well today we went and got the wood for Johns work bench. It was very exciting and very, very tiring! But it's almost all done. We finished the sides, the shelf and the top earlier tonight, Deryk will help John finish it up tomorrow. We also went geo caching with our church growth group! Whew! What a day! Looking forward to our first official day of school tomorrow.
Keeping our fingers crossed the school won't give us any problems :/

Rough Course Outline

Our goals for John are to become confident in his ability to learn independently and not feel pressure from his peers. John has a unique imagination, in which he express’s himself through molding pipe cleaners into anything hewants, from the star ship enterprise to iron man. He is very interested in how things work. He wants to build arobot! I have felt that all through his early school years that the school system has been stifling his creativity an need to learn the things that interest him. This year (2010-2011) is our first year of homeschooling and I am optimistic that we can approach learning in a new and exciting way for John.

We will break the year into for quarters and then again into months. We will be discussing with John what he wants to learn and focus on those things and things related to it. We will be using Geo Caching as a way to contain all the information and make it into a report that can be shared. Johns last day of public school will be Monday the 4^th of October, 2010. He will begin is school year at home Monday the 4^th of October, 2010.

Unit Formula: We will begin the unit by writing down questions that we have and answering questions that we already know (or think we know). Next we will write down things we want to know. Then we will begin our hunt for information, starting at the library. John will be allowed to use whatever is available to him to complete his search. When we have exhausted our search will begin our preparations for the geo cache. The geo cache can be as elaborate or simple as John would like. Possible problems I foresee are running out of material to last a full quarter or John losing interest. In either of these case we will simply finish what we have and start a new unit.

Week 1: We will start off by going to the library and begin with reading and learning to enjoy it! Discuss topics of interest for the year. Figure out a schedule that will include my working at the studio. We will continue looking for a math curriculum that suits our needs. In the mean time I will go to Walmart and see what they have available. The first few weeks will be spent focusing on what he already knows and building his confidence back up. We will also work on memorizing the multiplication tables.

First Day of School...

Well it's offical, John is no longer attending KUSD. School has bee such a struggle for him. The poor kid needs some one on one and a new style of teaching.
So here we go...
Our first day of school will be Monday, October 4, 2010. Wish us luck!!!
